The Florida Gators had a miraculous season finishing with a 36-4 overall record and capturing their third NCAA National Championship. Unlike the UCONN Huskies who rolled through the NCAA tournament with virtually no close games, the Gators were in a battle every step of the way after the round of 64. Here’s a look at their Go To Plays they used throughout the season:
“High Zoom”
A lot of people thought this play was a specific call. It wasn’t. This is an action the Gators use frequently as they break away from their ball screen continuity action. They scored on this early in the first half with Clayton coming off the zoom for a handoff into a jumper. Later on, they hit the counter action. The big pulls the ball high as the guard comes over, turns around, and "butt” screens the trailing defender. The San Antonio Spurs called this action “Touchdown” for many years with Tony Parker and Tim Duncan.
